Your Design Language
The design process begins with initial meetings to learn about your preliminary ideas, your likes and dislikes, your needs and wants. All of this adds up to your design language. This is play time. Bring images of built places that you like. Grab colors and textures that appeal to you. Photograph cultural and art objects that interest you. These sessions of show and tell are a time for us to get to know you. In turn, we can arrange for you to visit some of CF Design's finished projects.
The Site
We need also to get a strong feel for the external lay of the land. A good design project is never merely a structure. It is a cohesive landscape of imagery and functions. Our inspiration begins with you and with the place. There are no undistinguished places. To work with the specific place within which any project might grow and settle, we begin from a strong point of view. Point of view looks for aspects of the site that our home design should preserve, enhance, redefine, or incorporate.
Your Budget & Timeline
Money and schedules will, even with the best of planning, become some source of stress for most large-project clients. We have a good sense of the ever-changing cost of building materials. The construction cost of our projects is $180 to $450 per square foot. Our design time is billed at $55 - $85 per hour. We design to minimize unnecessary square footage, attending instead to the quality of materials and finish details. Schedules can be another point of frustration. Ideally, the design process itself will span the four seasons. If you take time for moments of chance brilliance to strike, the process always yields better design. >Phase II-Design Development
