As an extensive remodel on the North Shore of Lake Superior, this project came with two primary goals: work with existing structures and create a lively interior world. The central stairway brings the dynamic of kinesthetic sculpture to the core of the house. High-gloss steel floats the stair and platform over the open kitchen to a skewed threshold.
The themes of asymmetry and bold color play out on a softer note in other spaces, like the hearth. The bedroom sits snugly under an overarching ceiling.
On approach, large new windows, the introduction of a curvilinear roof line, and post and beam overhangs create a more inviting facade on the leeward side.
