Sited between a busy arterial and the North Shore of Lake Superior, one priority of this design program was its orientation. The street-side façade presents a low, understated profile, while the great-lake side breaks into dynamic towers and terraced porches and decks.
Stepping through a gate, one leaves behind the urban street scene to enter shore life. The passage entry offers protection and a big Wow! moment. The screen porch, deck, and arbor, made of reclaimed Douglas fir, all play to the big lake.
Inside, the detail of the floating stairway becomes a sculptural focus for the entire interior.
