This custom condominium build-out reshapes space to let our client’s aesthetic for high-contrast living find full expression. A professional with homes in Duluth and New York City, he brought to the project an interior designer and a well-developed eye. This premier penthouse underwent as much redesign as a top-floor unit can--including two newly-placed fireplaces.

Our goal redesigning the proposed shell was to simplify the organization of space. We sculpted the passages--present in any front-to-back condo unit--to include articulated ‘stopping points’. Redefining ceiling planes throughout helped create places of intimacy and reflected light.

We designed all cabinetry and casework, as well as custom accents. The Mondrian-inspired entry piece, for instance, offers a monochrome palette of leather used front and back, framed in Macasser ebony and brushed steel. Cabinets of gleaming white lacquer and matte wenge veneers play out the high-contrast motif, as does the primary flooring, black and white bamboo planking, in tandem with black granite and white Carrara marble.
